Cloud services are enjoying their highest share of user interest and they’ve got reasons to be called the best whenever it comes about sharing, data backup or real-time collaboration. Google Drive is obviously the leader and there are numerous other apps such as Dropbox that are doing much better as a service provider. But there are always some new branches growing along the tree that aspire to become a tree one day. We have one such app today that has the potential to score the limelight. Its name is pCloud!
pCloud in many terms is similar to Dropbox or Google Drive but then there are number of features as well that make it completely different. First, let me tell you that it’s the iOS app that we’re talking about here, though pCloud is a web service as well. The iOS app has been developed by PCloud and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 6.0 or any later version of the OS. The app has also been optimized for iPhone 5.
With pCloud app on your phone or any other device (it also comes for Windows, Mac and Linux), if you add data to your computer folder of pCloud, it’ll automatically be synced with all other devices where app has been installed with the same account and that too with immediate effect. This is to make sure that you never miss your data and can access it anywhere. If you’ve used Dropbox, then adding data is very similar to it.
When you first sign up for pCloud, you get 10GB of free data which is 5 times as in case of 2GB for Dropbox. But if you’re still thirsty, you can get 1GB per referral as well and all this comes with the free account. There is a special provision for upload and download links in pCloud. Suppose you want to share a file with a non-pCloud user, then the app will create a download link for the file. You can share that link with anyone and he/she can download the file. However, in case you want a file from someone else, then you can share a upload link where the person can upload the file and you won’t have to download and upload it again it to your pCloud account. You can also set permissions to the upload link and there’s no limit to the size of file you can upload.
However, there are a few lacks in the system as well. First, you can’t edit documents directly from the web service and you need the app to do that. So real time collaboration option is missing here. Then, this app also lacks a strong security as the encryption it uses is not as strong as Dropbox or Google Drive.
For data storage beyond 10GB, you can subscribe to their paid plans starting from $4.99/month for 100GB and going up to $49.99/month for 1TB.
