Since we have switched to Smartphones, our PCs are almost left useless. They’re lying in one corner of your room always wondering how fast the time changes. Once they ruled the world, now their generation is one the verge of extinction. They still carry a lot of your stuff; some pictures, songs, old documents and videos that you watch when you’re home. But this computer can never be your friend because it can’t “hang-out” with you. But I think we’re about to see a change in this relationship; Younity has arrived!
Younity is an iOS app developed by Entangled Media. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 7.0 or later.
Younity combines your iPhone with your desktop. All you have to do is download the desktop version of the app from www.getyounity.com, install it, create an account and then scan the data on your desktop which then will be synced with your iPhone account. The magnitude of the data doesn’t matter here as we’re only talking about syncing the directories without transferring a single bit of data in actual. It’s same as carrying Google into your pocket but you’re charged only when you surf the internet. So only when you open a certain file are you actually required of an internet connection. Also, this internet connection is required on both sides i.e. the phone and computer and your computer must be switched on all the time. I know it’s a bit clumsy to keep your computer awake but it also saves you the need to upload all the data online.
With Younity, you can stream all the media from your phone. Whether it’s a song, a video or even a playlist that you want to play, just tap the button. You can watch your photos, edit them and post them on social media. So your music, video and photo libraries are all available on the go. But that’s not all! You can privately share these files with your friends as well. Sharing files in this manner, they won’t be allowed to download them or share them with others. They’re only to view the files and that only for a limited time of 7 days after which they’ll be deleted from the server completely.
Younity is as organized as it is feature-rich. When the files are scanned on your PC, they’re automatically categorized as music files, video files, word files, etc. In the phone app, files are arranged under different folders making it easier for you to search for them. The files you’ve downloaded for offline use can be found under a different folder. While there’s no need of cloud servers, you can access them including Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, etc for any other files of yours. So Younity doesn’t leave a single stone unturned.
