In a surprising turn of events, some of the Chinese apps that were previously banned in India, such as Xender and TanTan, have made a comeback. However, one of the most popular apps, TikTok, is still missing from the scene.

The Indian government had banned several Chinese apps in 2020, citing security and data privacy concerns. Among them, Xender, a file-sharing app, and TanTan, a dating platform, were restricted due to their links to China. Now, reports indicate that these apps have resurfaced, either through alternative versions, new ownership, or different branding strategies.

One of the notable comebacks is Shein, a Chinese fashion retailer, which has re-entered India through a partnership with Reliance Retail. While Shein is back through legal collaborations, other apps like Xender and TanTan seem to have returned quietly, bypassing the previous bans.

Despite these developments, TikTok remains unavailable in India. The short-video platform, which had a massive user base in the country, has been lobbying for a return, but the Indian government has maintained its firm stance against the app.

As some of these apps return, concerns regarding data privacy, cybersecurity, and national security remain. The question now is whether the Indian authorities will take further action or allow these apps to operate under new circumstances.
